Latifundist.com writes about it, citing Reuters.

“60,000 tonnes were purchased from SALIC,” the statement said.

According to the material, the cargo was purchased at a cost of $ 248 / tonne, after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s private investors owning agricultural lands abroad on April 6 provided about 10% of local needs this year.

The newspaper writes that Saudi Arabia will continue to buy wheat.

Egg production in Ukraine in January-March 2020 amounted to 3.757 billion pieces, which is 0.1% lower than in the same period in 2019 (3.759 billion pieces).

It is reported by the Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine with reference to the data of the State Statistics Service.

In particular, egg production in the reporting period on the basis of specialized agricultural enterprises of Ukraine decreased by 0.8% to 2.333 billion pcs from 2.356 billion pcs in January-March 2019.

Egg production for the three months of 2020 on the basis of households increased by 1.2% – 1.42 million units compared to 1.4 million units.

According to the results of the first quarter of 2020, Ukraine exported dairy products totaling $ 44.7 million, which is 9.3% less than last year. At the same time, imports rose to $ 67.4 million (+ 167.5%).

In just 3 months of 2020, Ukraine became a net importer of dairy products, the Association of Dairy Producers (APM) said in a statement.

It is noted that the largest reduction in exports is noted in the oil trade, which decreased by 47.2% to 3.1 thousand tons. A failure in more than 39% occurred in the positions of whey and casein: up to 4.8 thousand tons and 402 t respectively.

“Cheeses also experienced a significant export drop: up to 1.2 thousand tons (-26.1%), condensed milk and cream – 4.4 thousand tons (-25.3%), non-condensed milk and cream – up to 4, 4 thousand tons (-25.3%). The group of fermented milk products experienced the smallest reduction in export supplies, but the decline was also significant: 9.8%, to 1.3 thousand tons. The only group of dairy products that showed an increase in exports was ice cream – 12.1% to 1.3 thousand. . t, ”the report said.

Analysts note that a critical drop in exports began last year due to a number of problems in the dairy industry, as well as a serious strengthening of the national currency. At the same time, due to the latter factor and a decrease in import duties on dairy products, importers of dairy products have significantly intensified. In the new year, the problems that remained were joined by the coronavirus pandemic, low oil prices and a global recession. Interestingly, the global quarantine and transnational logistical restrictions, it turns out, did not prevent Ukraine from continuing to increase the import of dairy products, which is observed for all groups of dairy products.

“In the new year, oil imports are most striking, reaching 2.8 thousand tons, and growth compared to the same period last year amounted to 1223%. The sky-high figures are also demonstrated by imports of milk and cream of non-condensed milk – 626% (up to 2.8 thousand tons) and casein – 427% (up to 58 tons). The increase in imports of cheese (by 152% to 10.2 thousand tons), dried and condensed milk (by 119% to 1 thousand tons), whey (by 119%, to 1.2 thousand tons), ice cream (by 64.3%, up to 46 tons), groups of fermented milk products (27.9% up to 1.8 thousand tons), ”the association notes.

According to the APM, the entire last year saw a monthly non-stop drop in the positive trade balance, and by the end of 2019, the balance of imports and exports of dairy products was zero. Today, Ukraine already has a negative balance in the trade in dairy products, which amounts to $ 22.7 million.

“In just three months of the new year, Ukraine has become a net importer of dairy products,” analysts say.

In January – March 2020, the MHP agricultural holding increased the total production of chicken by 4% to 178.64 thousand tons.

This was said in a statement.

As noted, as a result of the closure of markets, which led to a decrease in export sales, the total sales of chicken to third parties in the first quarter. 2020 decreased by 4% and amounted to 157.73 thousand tons compared with 164 thousand tons in the first quarter. 2019 year

MHP chicken meat exports for the reporting period amounted to 82 thousand tons, which is 12% lower than in the same period last year (Q1 2019: 93 thousand tons), with a significant reduction in export geography. Export sales this year amounted to about 52% compared to 57% for January – March 2019.

Domestic sales grew by 7% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 75.68 thousand tons. The growth was due to an increase in the share of frozen chicken (following the strategy for reducing stock balances).

“The outbreak of bird flu H5N1 in Ukraine (Vinnytsia region) was announced in the I quarter of 2020 and caused a temporary cessation of exports from Ukraine to the EU (restored in early March 2020), Saudi Arabia and other markets in the Middle East (restored in February and March 2020 ), as well as to the CIS countries (it is expected that they will open in May 2020). In order to mitigate the adverse impact on the activities and profitability of MHP, the Company’s management decided to reduce the use of the capacity of poultry complexes by about 10% (from February to the end of March 2020). Since the beginning of April, all the poultry production facilities of the company continue to work at full capacity again, ”MHP said.

At the same time, sales of MHP sunflower oil decreased by 19% and amounted to 80.71 thousand tons (I quarter of 2019 at 99.83 thousand tons), sales of soybean oil for export decreased by 29% and amounted to 15.152 thousand . t.

The sales of sausages and finished meat products in January-March 2020 remained relatively stable and amounted to 7.86 thousand tons compared to 7.57 thousand tons in the same period a year earlier. The sales volume of semi-finished products remained relatively stable and amounted to more than 4 thousand tons.

According to the results of the first quarter of 2020, Ukraine exported 630.4 thousand tons of soybeans for $ 217.4 million.

This is evidenced by the data of the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

The main importers of Ukrainian soybeans in the reporting period were:

Turkey – by $ 55.5 million (25.51%);
Belarus – by $ 49.8 million (22.93%);
Greece – by $ 21 million (9.67%);
others – by $ 91.1 million (41.9%).

In Ukraine, the price index for agricultural products in the I quarter of 2020 decreased by 7.3% compared with the same period last year.

This is evidenced by the data of the State Statistics Service.

In particular, in the reporting period, the price index of crop production decreased by 7.6% compared to the 1st quarter of 2019, livestock production – by 4.9%.

According to data, in March 2020, the price index for agricultural products in Ukraine decreased by 3.2% compared to March last year. In the segment of crop production, the decrease reached 3.2%, livestock – 3.6%.

At the same time, if we compare the indicator for the first quarter of 2020 with the fourth quarter of 2019, the price index for agricultural products grew by 9.7%, where growth in the crop segment fell by 13%. However, in the livestock segment, a decrease in the price index by 5.2% was recorded.

The State Food and Beverage Service has not recorded cases where countries introduced additional restrictions or rules for the export of Ukrainian products related to coronavirus.

“The only situation that we know of is export to Qatar, where their competent authorities requested that the exported products be accompanied by a declaration from the manufacturer, which states that all personnel are healthy and work in conditions that prevent the spread of coronavirus. Other countries absolutely do not place any additional restrictions related to coronavirus on Ukrainian products, ”commented Olga Shevchenko.

She also added that import and export operations in connection with quarantine in the world did not stop. All countries are focused on ensuring the food security of their national market. Import and control of imported products, according to the expert, is also carried out.

Olga Shevchenko noted that there may have been fewer specific imported goods, but this is due to the possibility of functioning production facilities in other countries.

“All countries that have fallen into the situation with coronavirus have tried their best to facilitate international trade. Export also did not stop, I would even say that it expanded during this time, ”the expert said.
